This 3-piece portal set includes two unique tunnel liners that sit flush to the rear of the portal and extend 2.5 ” beyond the portal face. We use natural rock casts to create these pieces and to have them join with minimal visible seams. The tunnel liners have a flat bottom and ends to form a simple butt joint with the rear of the portal.
We wanted to give this piece an older look but of course, many modern railroads still travel through portals just like this. If you’d like to run a double stack intermodal car through, once you attach the tunnel liners to the portal face just shim the entire piece up by .020″ or so. If you have very level track work you can leave the portal as is!
