About Us
Hello, and welcome to J.Cubbin.com. We began working in Z scale back in 2001 with Ztrack Magazine as a consultant and designer and now here we are, opening our own store! In addition to our work with Ztrack Magazine we're also know for our custom Z scale dioramas and layouts and yes, our love for the macro lens. We also publish the popular Z scale model railroading website, Ztrains.com. In Z scale, perhaps more than in any other model railroad scale, macro shots are King. Almost by definition, most close-up shots you see in Z scale are macro shots.
Too many small scale accessories just didn’t have the detail we wanted to see, so we began creating custom pieces for our dioramas and layouts. Once we began receiving requests for these accessories, we knew we were on to something!
With the incredible improvements, both visually and mechanically, we’re now seeing in Z scale locomotives and rolling stock, the accessories used next to these little jewels has to be of an equally high caliber. The work we produce here at J.Cubbin.com meets these expectations.
We work in both gypsum and resin, but more important than the material or the process is the feel of a piece. It has to feel right, it has to give you the sense that you’re looking at a miniaturized version of the real thing. This is always our goal.
In addition to our custom work, we’ve recently become an authorized AZL dealer. AZL produces some of the finest work in Z scale today and we’re proud to be associated with them.
